Craniosacral Therapy & Reiki
About Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy is a holistic treatment involving light, therapeutic touch administered to the head, neck, and other troublesome areas throughout the body that are preventing the exchange of cerebrospinal fluid. The craniosacral system is the soft tissue and fluid that protects, nourishes and cleanses the brain and spinal cord (the central nervous system). This system is responsible for the production and circulation of craniosacral fluid. It is influenced by the nervous, musculoskeletal, respiratory, lymphatic, vascular and endocrine systems. Tension or dysfunction in these systems may influence the craniosacral system, which in turn may affect the central nervous system.
Practitioners of this natural therapy use selective pressures to manipulate the cranial bones, offering guests the feeling of deep relaxation during and after the session.
*Cranial Sacral and Craniosacral are used interchangeably to “name” this therapy.
The Benefits of Craniosacral Therapy & Reiki
Craniosacral Therapy can help everyone by enhancing his or her physical and emotional well-being. These therapeutic enhancements decrease stresses and restrictions on the craniosacral system that reduce its performance efficiency. An imbalance or dysfunction in the craniosacral system can cause sensory, motor and/or neurological dysfunction.
The positive effect of this healing modality encourages the body’s own natural healing mechanisms to dissipate the negative effects of trauma and stress. Craniosacral therapy not only affects structural change, but may increase physical vitality, enhance well-being and increase resiliency. Craniosacral therapy may help people overcome health challenges by offering the following benefits:
- Reducing pain associated with headaches, TMJ, and discomfort of other chronic pain issues
- Reducing the negative effects of stress
- Balancing of emotions and anxiety
- Supporting deep restful sleep
- Reducing symptoms associated with fatigue or hyperactivity
- Balancing of brain and memory function
- Concussion recovery
- Rebalancing digestive and immune systems
- Enhancing mental and physical performance
What to expect during and after a Therapy Session
Craniosacral /Reiki Therapy is performed on a client fully clothed, laying on their back. A very light touch is used to monitor the cranial rhythm in order to detect potential restrictions and imbalances. The therapist will usually begin evaluating imbalances by listening to the guest’s concerns and examining the cranial base, feet or trunk. Cerebrospinal fluid must flow freely from the head and neck all the way down the entire spine. By targeting the sacrum, guests can get relief from pain, including the following: general back pain, stress, chronic fatigue, and poor balance – and many other issues associated with the hips. Craniosacral Sessions usually last 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending upon the body’s needs.
You may experience emotion as a result of the treatment. A whole range of emotions can be associated with physical trauma. To achieve wellness and healing, craniosacral therapy serves to provide release of the emotional component associated with trauma. The emotional trauma could be, for example, fear associated with pain, or an emotion that was being felt at the time of an accident that becomes trapped in our cells.
Craniosacral therapy provides subtle shifts which take place during your craniosacral treatment. These shifts help to reorganize your brain with your body for up to a week after treatment. After treatment you may experience pain in another area of the body. It is possible that as we address one problem area, another may show itself because our bodies often carry several layers of stresses, whether physical or emotional. Once the top layer of dysfunction has been addressed, another layer could reveal itself, especially if the body is ready to deal with that layer as well. Others may not ever feel much during a treatment but, may notice within two days to one week that their pain has gone away or that their problem seems to be resolved. This varies from person to person.
Consider this: If, for example, an unresolved accident or other trauma happened to you as a child, and you are now 45 years old, your body has been out of alignment and equilibrium for a very long time. It may be stubbornly stuck in this unnatural state. Therefore, treatment may take some time to unwind, release, and restore the body and mind to its correct alignment and equilibrium. Once alignment and equilibrium are restored wellness and vitality return. Although craniosacral is nothing short of an amazing healing modality, old injuries from our past, injuries that have become a part of us and have thrown our bodies out of balance, take longer to heal. The shorter the time from having pain/injury to receiving a craniosacral therapy treatment, the more quickly the body will respond. Often newer, short-term conditions can be resolved in one or two treatments.
*It is best not to have other treatment modalities for two to three days after your craniosacral treatment. This will allow time to let the body fully absorb and adjust to the craniosacral treatment.
Using Reiki in Tandem with Craniosacral Therapy: Both can work upon releasing stress and stored energies in the body. Reiki may also help resolve any soul healing in current, past or future life representations.
How does Craniosacral Therapy & Reiki differ from Massage?
Massage works primarily with muscles, trigger point, ligaments, and range of motion using pressure and stroking of the muscles and body areas. Craniosacral therapy primarily uses light (5 grams) pressure to allow the tension and neurological component to release and the brain to re-organize and recognize a new balance with the body. Craniosacral therapy uses lighter pressure in areas of the body as opposed to the deeper pressure of a massage. Craniosacral therapy re-connects the body parts thereby linking the central nervous system to communicate more effectively and create a more harmonious functionality.
Reiki works with energies, entities, emotional work, past present and future, this may be hands on or off.
In both modalities you may recieve messages, imaging or thoughts of what you need.
